Joel Like

Joel Like, age 100, died Wednesday, July 13, 2011 in Clayton, New Mexico.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 16, 2011, at The First Baptist Church in Clayton, with Rev. Billy Rammage, pastor officiating. Burial followed in the Clayton Memorial Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton.

Joel Like was born on October 25, 1910, in Folsom, New Mexico to Isaac Like and Margaret “Maggie” (Lawrence) Like. A lifelong resident of Union County, Joel married Beulah Juanita Ester (Jackson) Like on March 23, 1936, in Boise City, Oklahoma and she preceded him in death on October 6, 2006. They bought a ranch on the Dry Cimarron on April 13, 1946, and lived there until January, 1994 when they retired and moved into Clayton. This ranch had water rights from the Dry Cimarron and Alfalfa fields which produced seed as well as hay. This seed was in high demand and was how Joel and Beulah paid for the place. Joel was known throughout the area for his alfalfa seed. In addition to his wife and parents Joel was preceded in death by a son; Wesley Like, in 1975, a Granddaughter; Karen Janita McClure on March 1, 1957, twin Great Grandsons; Matthew and Mark Klassen on March 18, 1992, 2 Brothers; Chester Like and Everett Like and 2 Sisters; Wilma Sumpter and Catherine Sumpter


2 Daughters: Judy Like and Gerald Gove and Juanita McClure and her husband Bob all of Clayton, New Mexico.

2 Sons: Freddie Like and his wife Nora of Folsom, New Mexico and Henry Like and his wife Beth of Clarendon, Texas.

3 BROTHERS-IN-LAW: Ed Hughes of La Junta, Colorado, Babe Jackson of Villegreen, Colorado and Bobby Jackson of Swink, Colorado.

1 SISTER-IN-LAW: Jane Like of Boise City, Oklahoma.
