Geneive Kornele

Geneive Kornele, age 83, died Tuesday, March 6, 2012 in Clayton, New Mexico.

Funeral Services were held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Clayton, New Mexico with Rev. Jay Jones, pastor officiating. Burial followed in the Clayton Memorial Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton.

Geneive Lawrence Kornele was born on July 14, 1928 in Darrouzett, Texas to Charles W. Lawrence and Mollie Melvina (Dyson) Lawrence. She was raised Northeast of Clayton and attended 12 years of school in Clayton and graduated from Clayton High School in 1947. She married Bill Kornele on September 23, 1948 and they moved to California during their early years of marriage where they lived for seventeen years before moving back to Clayton in 1968. Geneive worked as a sales clerk at Sleepies Ben Franklin for a number of years and then at Pixie’s until she retired in 1990. Geneive was a dedicated wife and mother and was also extremely dedicated to caring for extended family members. When any member of the family was ill, injured or recovering from surgery, she was the first one there to wait on them. She would work herself into a frenzy cooking, cleaning and tending to their every need. She always seemed to know just what to do to lift your spirit and help put you on the road to recovery. Family meant everything to Geneive and she sacrificed a great deal for her family, often at the expense of her own health and well being. Geneive lived the last three months of her life at the Clayton Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son; Gary Dean Kornele, a sister and family; Leitha Jones and her husband Shorty and their 2 children Larry Gene and Susie, 2 more sisters; Lillie Mae Harbour and Clara Ann Coble, 3 brothers; C. E. Lawrence, Richard Lawrence and Leroy “Bud” Lawrence as well as two older siblings, Johnnie and Mary Mae who were killed in a house fire as toddlers and by 1 infant grandson, Jim Ed Atkins. Geneive will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but she is leaving behind a legacy of sacrificial love that will be remembered by al who knew her.

SURVIVORS:

2 DAUGHTERS: Connie Atkins and her husband James of Maxwell, New Mexico and Barbara Dixon and her husband Jess of Boise City, Oklahoma.
