Barbara Leona (Bates) Green, age 79, died on Monday, September 5, 2022, in Clayton, New Mexico.

Graveside services will be held at 9:00 AM Mountain Time on Monday, September 26, 2022, at the Mexhoma Cemetery in Mexhoma, Oklahoma with Rev. Billy Rammage officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton, New Mexico.

Barbara Leona (Bates) Green was born July 27, 1943, in Clayton New Mexico to Oren Tison Bates and Vivian Leona (Black) Bates. Barbara went to Beauty school in Fort Worth, Texas and graduated as one of the top 5 in her class. After she graduated, she worked at Martha's Beauty Shop for a while then went on to work as a nurse's aid at the Union County Hospital. Barbara married Bobby D. Green on March 16, 1961, and he preceded her in death on December 10, 2010. Barbara enjoyed farming and ranching alongside her husband Bobby for many years. She spent many hours in tractors or working on them. The family would jokingly say that there were days she needed a break from farming and would do so by "accidentally" one-waying the fence instead of the crop. Barbara was a 4H leader and taught Bible study to the children at the Clayton Church of Christ for many years. She loved to ride horses and would disappear for most of the day to find a spot to relax and enjoy the scenery. Barbara took time to sew and do leather work to create many things for family and friends. Barbara spent hours in her garden with her cutoff jeans and cowboy boots to make sure her family had plenty of food. She loved to bake for the holidays and special occasions. She worked with her sister in-law on many wedding cakes through the years. The smell of her Chocolate and peanut butter cake was the smell of heaven. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She was an amazing, beautiful, sweet, daughter, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Oren and Vivian Bates, her husband Bobby D. Green Sr., a son Bobby D. Green Jr. and a brother Tommy W. Bates.

Son: Brad Green and his wife Jan Green of Clayton NM.

Daughter-in-law: Rhonda K Green of Clayton NM.

5 grandchildren: Sonnie Sowers of Clayton NM, Kaycie Gilbreath and husband Jarrett Gilbreath of Clayton NM, Krystal Alvidrez and husband Victor Alvidrez, Stryker Green and wife Naomi Green of Texline TX. Kayla Grice and husband John Grice of Clayton NM.

11 Great-grandchildren: Lincoln, Luke, and Calvin Sowers, Olivia and Christopher Alvidrez, Rowan, Handen, and Henno Green, Cody, Sniper and Apixious Grice.

Along with several nieces and nephews.
