Betty Lee Sayre, age 97, passed away on June 9, 2025, surrounded by family members, in Amarillo, Texas.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM Mountain Time on Saturday, September 13, 2025 in the Kenton Cemetery, family and friends will gather at the Kenton Community center following the services.

Betty was born on August 18, 1927, to Lauren Bruce Sayre and Vera Louise Simpson Sayre in Breckenridge, Texas. They moved to Clayton, New Mexico when she was a few months old, then to the Dry Cimarron, where she grew up. Betty attended first grade at the Wagner School, riding horse back there with her Aunt Bonnie. She attended Goodson School 2nd grade thru 10th grade, moving to Clayton for her Jr & Sr year graduating in 1945. Betty went to work for Mountain Bell Telephone Company after graduation. She retired after working there for 32 years.
Betty married Al Cass in 1948, they had two children, Bruce and Nancy.

Over the years Betty volunteered in many Community organizations, Chamber of Commerce, Cowbell's, Santa Fe Trail Association, New Deal (WPA), Arts Council, her main passion was The Union County Historical Society and Herzstein Memorial Museum. Betty was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Betty was proceeded in death by her parents Lauren and Vera Sayre, two brothers, Franklin, and Shirley (Buster), siter-in-law, Vera Ledene Sayre, sister, Barbara Monroe, brother-in-law Kendyl Monroe, Son, Bruce Cass, two nephews, Mark Sayre, and Dean Monroe.

Betty is survived by Daughter, Nancy Hartsell, and Husband Dennis of Red River, New Mexico, by Daughter-in-law Carol Connolly of Santa Fe, New Mexico, five grandchildren, Jesse Hartsell, and wife Christy, Jason Newby, and wife Nicole, Jessica Hartsell, Jennifer Essary, and husband Michael, Alisa Pillai, and husband Jonathan. Seven great grandchildren. Nephews, Joe Sayre, Sydney Monroe, and Loren Monroe. Cousins and friends.
