Claud N
Hyatt
Jun 1, 1939 — Feb 20, 2021
Clayton
Claud N. Hyatt, age 81, died on Saturday, February 20, 2021 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at the Don R. Wood Auditorium in Clayton, New Mexico. Burial will follow at the Clayton Memorial Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton, New Mexico.
Claud N. Hyatt was born on June 1, 1939 in Tulia, Texas to Audrey Hyatt and Jewel (Elam) Hyatt. His family attended First Baptist Church in Tulia and Claud was baptized there at the age of 11. His religious beliefs were deep, but personal. Claud tried to live by the teachings of his religious background. He worked in a grocery store from age 11 through his junior year at West Texas State. He graduated Tulia High School in 1958 and earned his Bachelors Degree from West Texas State (Now A&M University) in the spring of 1964. In the Fall of 1964 he moved to Clayton. He found that it was great fun to bore people by talking about history, and was amazed that people could actually get paid for doing a fun thing for just five days a week. He enjoyed college history classes, so summer classes were the norm for the next five years and Claud earned his Masters Degree in School Administration and History from New Mexico Highlands University in 1972. Claud expected to remain in Clayton maybe a year, yet he retired after 39 years of teaching, or as he put it, "tiring people with history stories, it was a great life". Claud was preceded in death by his parents.
