Clay Crisp, age 52, died on Friday, August 1, 2025, in Amarillo, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at the Clayton Methodist Church, in Clayton, New Mexico with Pastor Kenneth W. Tidmore and Pastor Terrell Jones, pastor of the Trinity Fellowship Church in Clayton, officiating. Burial will follow in the Antioch Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton, New Mexico.

Clay Crisp was born on December 21, 1972, in Clayton, New Mexico to Billy James Crisp and Patricia (Hephner) Crisp. After graduating from Clayton High School in 1991, he attended NMSU for one semester before returning to Clayton to start a lifetime career in the ranching and cattle business. He also seasonally spent endless hours working in the custom harvesting business with PMS for 26 years before he became a full-time rancher in the Thomas and Clayton area. Clay married Audra (Poling) Crisp on March 24, 2008, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was a devoted husband and father. In recent months he was often heard to jokingly say that his kids were tough bosses to work for, and they wouldn't let him have a day off. He loved being with his wife and kids, whether it was the 3:45 AM alarm going off to go ship cattle or just doing daily ranch chores. Clay's "day off" was being blessed with the ability of working daily with his family. Clay had an amazing ability with children, whether they were his own or someone else's. If there was a kid around it was like he was a magnet drawing them to him. Clay and Martin Dettle formed a partnership in 2007 that they called C5 Cattle Company. This business adventure gave Clay the unique opportunity to meet and do business with people all across the United States. He traveled to and ran cattle in several different states in the last 18 years creating a very viable business. Clay's husbandry skills when it came time to take care of sick or distressed animals could not be matched. He always gave them another chance. Clay's greatest accomplishment in life was his family. Clay was preceded in death by his father Billy James Crisp, his grandparents, Francis and Mary (Perkins) Hephner, Vincent and Irene (Christian) Crisp, his father-in-law, George Poling and mother-in-law, Patsy (Cyphers) Poling.

Wife: Audra Crisp of Clayton, New Mexico.

1 son, Monty Crisp and 2 daughters, Katy Crisp and Karley Crisp all of Clayton, New Mexico.

His Mother: Pat Crisp and her husband Gene Podzemny of Sedan, New Mexico

1 Sister: Lynnette Prather and her husband Blake of Clovis, New Mexico.

3 Brothers: Chad Crisp and his wife Molly and Billy Ryon Crisp and his wife Myah all of Clayton, New Mexico and Michael Crisp and his wife Darinda of Amistad, New Mexico.

Nephews and Nieces: Hadley, Rae Lynn, Halee, Amber, Mason, McKinlee, Mandy, Tanna, Morgan, Nora, Aly, Tucker, Preslie, Levi, Bo, Dustin, Triton and Ali.

2 Great-Nephews and 3 Great-Nieces.

2 Brothers-in-law: Todd Poling and his wife Honey and Trent Poling and his wife Jennifer all of Clayton, New Mexico.

His aunts, uncles and cousins that he was very close with and Gene's children and families and many friends.
