Memorial Rosary was recited at 7:00 PM on Thursday, December 29, 2011 by Deacon P. Louis Montoya and Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:00 AM, on Friday, December 30, 2011 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Clayton, New Mexico with Fr. Glenn Jones, Celebrant. Services were under the direction of Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton, New Mexico.

Near January 4, 2011, our loved one, David Michael Montoya, left this world. Ten months later on November 4, 2011 his family and friends finally got the answer in regards to his disappearance. David Michael Montoya was born on February 5, 1963 in Clayton, New Mexico, the first child of Leo R. Montoya and Mary F. (Vigil) Montoya. As a child he shared a special connection with his maternal grandmother, Clorinda Marez. He particularly loved her tortillas and green chile. A lifelong resident of Clayton, New Mexico, his joy of the outdoors blossomed since an early age. He often looked for fossils and rocks with his friends and he aspired to be a paleontologist when he grew up. When he was 5 years old, the family moved to Dumas, Texas. There David played peewee football. He attended Sunside and Morningside Elementary with his sister Leola. He was a protective and caring brother to both of his sisters, Leola and Caroline. When he was 15, the family returned to Clayton. At CHS, David excelled in his academics and particularly enjoyed reading. His feats as a running back on the football field are unparalleled. Rival teams knew #32 by name. His dedication to health and fitness began with weightlifting in high school and continued throughout his life. David graduated from Clayton High School in 1981. Aty basic training for the National Guard, David excelled again. Although he was recommended for the Officer;s Candidate School, circumstances led him away from the guard. He worked for Teles Casados for several years and for the Best Western Kokopelli Lodge. In the years after his marriage to Kelly, they had three sons together. David passed his knowledge of hunting and respect for nature to Matthew, Mikie and Timmy. He also continued to read extensively with a focus on philosophy, physics and the non-fiction genre. After David and Kelly parted, he continued to live in Clayton with his boys. With the birth of his first grandchild, Deion, David's tender and loving nature came to light again. He nurtured and cared for Deion by holding and spoiling him like only a grandfather can. David was preceded in death by his Paternal Grandparents and Maternal Grandparents. David will be sorely missed, yet he would not wish to be mourned as his spirit is free.

3 SONS: Matthew Montoya, Mikie Montoya and Tim Montoya all of Clayton, New Mexico.

HIS PARENTS: Leo & Mary Montoya of Clayton, New Mexico.

1 GRANDSON: Deion Montoya of Clayton, New Mexico.

2 SISTERS: Leola Gonzales and her husband Bobby of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Caroline Vital and her husband Pete of Los Lunas, New Mexico.

5 Nieces and Nephews: Clarissa Gonzales and her fiancé Daniel Archuleta and their son Daniel Archuleta Jr., Cassandra Gonzales and her fiancé Shawn Franco and Robert Gonzales all of Albuquerque, New Mexico and P. J. Vital and Alyssa Vital both of Los Lunas, New Mexico.

and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
