George Allen "Buster" Poling, Jr., age 76, died on Monday, September 29, 2025, in Lubbock, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at the Clayton Methodist Church, in Clayton, New Mexico. Burial will follow in the Clayton Memorial Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton, New Mexico.

George Allen Poling Jr., known affectionately as Buster, was born on March 1st, 1949, in Amarillo, Texas, to George Allen Poling Sr. and Marguerite Annie Carter Poling. As the second of three children, he was a younger brother to Peggy Poling and an older brother to Judy Poling Robertson.

Buster graduated from Clayton High School in 1967 and pursued higher education at the University of Nevada, Reno, earning his Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Business from New Mexico State University. He further distinguished himself by graduating from the New Mexico School of Banking.

Following his education, Buster worked in agricultural finance before embarking on a 27-year career in banking. His leadership and dedication earned him recognition as a prominent figure in New Mexico's small banking community in the New Mexico Business Journal.

In June 1975, he married Kay Kirby, and together they celebrated 50 years of marriage.  Buster and Kay were blessed with two wonderful children, Jamie Brooke and George Allen III (Tres). In 1981, they moved to Tucumcari, where Buster served as president of McFarland Brothers Bank, later known as Zia New Mexico Bank, guiding local banking with integrity and care.

A man with an incredible sense of humor, Buster was known for his optimism and love of life. He enjoyed sharing laughs, especially over good ice cream, a West Texas or New Mexico sunset, and a John Wayne western. A great cook and family man, he treasured moments in the mountains, taking his family on memorable trips that created lifelong bonds. His ranching background shaped his love of the land and outdoors.

In 1999, Buster and Kay relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he continued to excel in the financial sector. Later, he returned to Clayton, where he dedicated himself to city management. He served as City Manager in Texline, Bovina, and Lockney, actively participating in community and city affairs, and serving on numerous boards and committees.

Buster was a devout church member and a compassionate, giving man—always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His kindness, generosity, and unwavering optimism touched the lives of many.

He was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by his wife Kay of Lubbock; his daughter Jamie, and her children Ryder, Gunnar, and Brooklyn; his son Tres; and his son Carter of Lubbock.

Buster's legacy is one of joy, kindness, and a steadfast dedication to his family and community. His spirit will forever be cherished in the hearts of all who knew him.
