Gracie June Connell, age 89, died Monday, March 21, 2011, in Amarillo, Texas.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Clayton, New Mexico with Rev. Jay Jones, pastor officiating. Burial followed in the Clayton Memorial Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton.

Gracie June Connell was born on May 3, 1921 in Clayton, New Mexico to Robert Otis Wetsel and Margaret Etta "Maggie" (Prentice) Wetsel. A lifelong resident of Union County, She was the Postmaster at Stead, New Mexico from 1968 until September of 1991 when she retired. Gracie June married Andrew Owen "Drew" Connell on June 30, 1940 in Clayton, New Mexico and he preceded her in death on December 4, 1992. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clayton. Gracie June was a very faithful servant to God and went home to be with the Lord. In addition to her parents and husband, Gracie June was preceded in death by a sister, Lava Evelyn Butt on November 5, 2008.

SURVIVORS:

3 DAUGHTERS: Evelyn VanDeventer and Susan Booth and her husband Murray all of Amarillo, Texas and Ann Barnhart of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

3 SONS: Otis Owen Connell and his wife Judy of Topeka, Kansas, John P. Connell and his wife Betty of Hobbs, New Mexico and Roger Lee Connell and his wife Sheila of Amarillo, Texas.

1 BROTHER: Robert M. "Buster" Wetsel of Clayton, New Mexico.
