Obituary

Howard Lee Smith, age 74, died Wednesday, October 27, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Rosary was recited at 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 3 and Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:00 AM on Thursday, November 4, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Roy, New Mexico. Fr. Paul Nkumbi will be the Celebrant. Burial followed in the Roy Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton.

Howard Lee Smith was born on December 10, 1935 in Panhandle, Texas to Othie N. Smith and Gladys (Winters) Smith. He graduated from Clayton High School in 1953 and joined the US Navy on January 12, 1954 where he served until August 16, 1977 when he retired. Howard worked as an electrician while serving in the Navy and also in his civilian life after he retired from the Navy. Howard married Lydia (Lovato) Smith on September 12, 1958 in Clayton, New Mexico and they lived in California, Japan, Albuquerque and Raton while he was in the Navy. After he retired they lived in Albuquerque for ten years where he worked as an electrician for Presbyterian before moving to Roy, New Mexico. Howard was a member of the VFW, the Fleet Reserve, the DAV and Holy Family Catholic Church in Roy. In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by 1 brother; John E. Smith on April 15, 1982 and 1 sister; Beverly Jean Marker on May 23, 2010.

WIFE: Lydia Smith of Roy, New Mexico.

2 DAUGHTERS: Rita Smith of Las Vegas, Nevada and Virginia Smith and Memo Arvizo of Roy, New Mexico.

1 SON: Donald Smith and his wife Cheryl of Santa Rosa, California.

7 GRANDCHILDREN: Damian Smith of Las Vegas, Nevada, Serena Smith and Henry Montoya of Las Vegas, New Mexico, Adrianna Smith and Nicholas Smith both of Roy, New Mexico, Caitlyn Smith of Las Vegas, Nevada and Madlyn Smith and Westleigh Smith both of Santa Rosa, California.

3 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Logan Smith of Las Vegas, Nevada and Javier Montoya and Cesar Montoya both of Las Vegas, New Mexico.

1 SISTER: Anita Kelley of Dalhart, Texas.

2 BROTHERS: Gerald Smith and his wife Patricia of Fort Worth, Texas and Clifford Smith and his wife Peggy of Tucson, Arizona.

And numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
