Jesse L. Long, age 84, died Sunday, May 22, 2011, at his home in Clayton, New Mexico.

Funeral Services were held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Clayton with Rev. Terrell Jones, pastor of the Trinity Fellowship Church in Clayton, officiating. Burial followed in the Clayton Memorial Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton.

Jesse L. Long was born June 29, 1926 to Lawson Long and Viola (Wyler) Long in Gate, Oklahoma. The oldest of three children, Jess and his family moved to New Mexico in 1930. After attending school in Cuates, Seneca and Clayton, Jess graduated from Clayton High School in 1945 and joined the US Army. After his discharge from the service, Jess met Eddie Jean Breen and they were married on April 12, 1948 in Clayton, New Mexico. He worked for Colorado Interstate for a period of time, then worked on various ranches until he moved to Clayton in 1957. At that time, Jess and Eddie established Southwest Metal Works, where many horse and stock trailers as well as overhead feed bins were designed, built and delivered throughout the agricultural areas of the United States. Jess loved the country and got up every morning looking for rain. His most enjoyable times were attending anything in which the grandkids were involved. He especially liked taking the grandkids to the country to work with him. In addition to his parents, Jess was preceded in death by a sister; Claudine Walls and an infant brother; Richie Long.

WIFE: Eddie Jean Long of Clayton, New Mexico.

2 DAUGHTERS: Sybil Holland and Jay Fluhman and her husband Larry all of Clayton, New Mexico.

1 BROTHER: Glen Long and his wife Judy of Texico, New Mexico.

6 GRANDCHILDREN: Travis Holland and Sheila Chaloupek, Bradey Holland, Tyson Holland, Chad Fluhman, Tate Fluhman and Lindsey Fluhman.

2 GREAT-GRANDDAUGHTERS: Hailey and Jesy Breen Holland
