Obituary

Jimmie Nell Sowers, age 86, died Thursday, February 21, 2013 at her home outside of Clayton, New Mexico.

Memorial services were held at 10:00 AM on Saturday March 2, 2013 at Hass Funeral Home in Clayton with Rev. Jay Jones, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Clayton, officiating.

Jimmie Nell Sowers was born on October 29, 1926 in Bells, Texas to J. L. Craft and Belle (Clark) Craft. A lifelong resident of Union County, Jimmie Nell went to school in Clapham and then graduated from Clayton High School. She married Virgil Sowers in Raton, New Mexico on April 18, 1947. He preceded her in death on June 20, 1995. Jimmie Nell worked at a munitions factory in Texas during WWII and then returned to Union County after the war and lived in the Thomas area the remainder of her life. She was one of the founding members of the Clayton Arts Council and a talented artist, known far and wide for her beautiful paintings. Jimmie Nell gave generously to the community, hosting showers and other community events and caring for neighbors. In addition to her husband and parents, Jimmie Nell was preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters and a grandson, Jason Sowers on September 18, 1995. She was a loving mother and wife.

SURVIVORS:

1 SON: David Sowers and his wife Joyce of Clayton, New Mexico.

3 DAUGHTERS: Linda Mitchell of Los Lunas, New Mexico, Lu Ellen Boren and her husband Victor of Durango, Colorado and Amy Lynn Clymer of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
