Lonny Darrell Callis (Poppy), passed away February 8th, 2024, at his home in Seneca SC.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. MST on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at the Clayton Methodist Church (200 N. 5th Ave.), Clayton, New Mexico with Pastor Billy Ramage.  Music and fellowship with refreshments will follow the services.

Darrell Callis was born on August 10, 1951, in Clayton, New Mexico to Charley Callis and Alta Faye (Robinson) Callis.  He will be fondly remembered as a world class cutting and reining horse trainer and competitor, farmer and rancher, farm and livestock auctioneer, Clayton Schools athletics bus driver, Union County Commissioner, President of the Greater New Mexico Cutting Horse Association, and just a jack of all trades. Darrell was married to Diana (Mahanay) Callis for 53 years, together they raised two sons Brent and Ryan building a life and home on a small ranch in Sedan N.M. He lived his life as a dedicated man of faith with a heart of giving.  Though a man of few words he had a tremendous positive impact on all those who had the privilege to get to know him.  A true cowboy spirit that would never offer up a beer but share an ice-cream cone with anyone who would have one.  His dedication first to God, family and his life's calling has created a legacy that will live on with those he has left behind. Darrell was preceded in death by his father, Charley Callis, mother, Alta Faye Callis, Father-in-law Bill Mahanay, daughter-in-law April Callis.

SURVIVORS:

Wife: Diana Callis of Seneca, South Carolina

2 Sons: Brent Callis and his wife Karen of Walhalla, South Carolina and Ryan Callis of Maywood, Nebraska.

3 Grandchildren: Dakoda and his wife Rebecca of Seneca South Carolina, Laynee Callis a student at the University of Tennessee and Charley Callis of Maywood, Nebraska.

2 Siblings: Kathy Johnston and husband John of Clayton, New Mexico and Quint Callis of Clayton, New Mexico.

Mother-in-Law: Lois Mahanay.

Sister-in-Law: Sherry Quimby and husband Jim.

Numerous nieces and nephews

He will be greatly missed and forever loved.
