Marietta Gene (Burgin) Foreman was born to Delbert Roy Burgin and Ruth McLain Burgin on August 24, 1922, at home in Barber County, Kansas, near Sun City. She moved with her parents to the Felt community in second grade where she continued through graduation from high school. She went on to Panhandle A&M College in Goodwell for two years. After WWII began, men teachers were going to war, and she was recruited to teach in Palco and then Ford, Kansas. She finished her degree at Panhandle by going to summer school, graduating in 1944 with a Bachelor's Degree in both history and commerce. She later taught at both Texhoma and Felt High Schools. On March 30, 1946 Marietta married Thomas Mabry Foreman in Clayton, New Mexico upon his return from service during the war. Marietta was a full partner in their farming/ranching operation over the remainder of her life. She was also a busy gardener and homemaker as long as she was able, keeping all children, grandchildren and others supplied with beautiful crochet work and cross-stitch. She fed her love of history by becoming an expert genealogist. Marietta was a people person who loved keeping up with other people's lives and interests.
