Martha Jean Carter, age 92, died on Monday, February 26, 2024, in Clayton, New Mexico.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in Clayton, New Mexico with Rev. Hilario Perez officiating. Burial will follow in the Clayton Memorial Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton.

Martha Jean Carter was born on June 25, 1931, in Clayton, New Mexico to Roy Kennedy and Myrtice (Williams) Kennedy. Martha Jean lived most of her life in Union County, she graduated from Clayton High School and married Donald E. "Bud" Carter on October 22, 1950, in Clayton and he preceded her in death on September 26, 2001. She was a very active member of the First Baptist Church in Clayton and for many years was very involved in the bereavement dinners at the church before or after funerals. In addition to her parents and husband, Martha Jean was preceded in death by a son, Gary Carter, 2 grandchildren, 2 sisters and 1 brother.

SURVIVORS:

2 DAUGHTERS: Mary Jean Riddlespurger and her husband David of Emory, Texas and Nancy Sheril Clute and her husband Robert of Amarillo, Texas.

1 SON: Roy Carter and his wife Sally of Las Cruces, New Mexico.

1 DAUGHTER-IN-LAW: Sara Carter of Petersburg, Texas.

8 GRANDCHILDREN: Casey Carter and Kara Sandoval who Martha Jean and Bud raised, and Carter McDonald, Chelsea Lowance, Bradley Carter, Deana Crump, Lisa Vaughn and Darrell Messer.

And numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
