Ophelia M. (Arellano) Vigil, age 83, died Monday, August 19, 2013, in Amarillo, Texas.
Rosary was recited at 7:00 PM on Thursday, August 22, by Deacon P. Louis Montoya and Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 23, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Clayton with Fr. Glenn Jones, Celebrant. Burial followed in the Clayton Memorial Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton.
Ophelia M. (Arellano) Vigil was born on June 20, 1930 in Clayton, New Mexico to Jesus M. Arellano and Escolastica (Gonzales) Arellano. A lifelong resident of Union County, Ophelia married Gomisindo P. "Gomez" Vigil in June of 1948 in Raton, New Mexico and he preceded her in death on December 24, 1992. Ophelia worked for Clayton Dry Cleaners for over 30 years and then worked with Gomez as Custodians of the First National Bank of New Mexico and the Clayton Post Office for several years. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Clayton. In addition to her parents and husband, Ophelia was preceded in death by a son; Wilfred R. Vigil on April 23, 1978, a daughter; Loretta Gene Vigil on July 24, 1950, 5 sisters; Raquel Joan Arellano, Josephine Goff, Frances Ward, Elsie Romero and Corina Martinez and by 3 brothers; Julian E. "Billy" Arellano, Fermin Arellano and Joe Ben Arellano.
SURVIVORS:
3 DAUGHTERS: Barbara Aragon and Loretta Vigil both of Clayton, New Mexico and Sally Carter of Las Cruces, New Mexico.
1 SON: Leoray Vigil of Clayton, New Mexico.
10 GRANDCHILDREN: James Martinez, Wilfred Vigil, Matthew Aragon, Andre Aragon, Candace Aragon, Mark Aragon, Charetta West, Bradley Carter, Stephen Vigil and Christian Sintas.
8 Great-Grandchildren
And numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
