Phyllis was the daughter of Charlie “Chuck” and Anne Raimondi Conder. She grew up in Des Moines, New Mexico,
where her family had deep roots. Phyllis also made her home in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Kim, Colorado, before
eventually returning to her hometown of Des Moines.
Phyllis devoted much of her professional life to education, teaching many dedicated years in southern New Mexico
and in Des Moines. Her working years also included serving at the local post office and at the local gas station
convenience store, reflecting her many connections to the small community she called home.
Family was important to Phyllis, and she valued the relationships she shared with those closest to her. Phyllis was
independent, loving, and known for her sense of humor, often sharing a witty observation or a little good-natured
teasing. She was tech-savvy and enjoyed keeping up with technology. In her leisure time, she enjoyed trips to the
casino and following a good true crime story.
Phyllis shared more than three decades of marriage with her late husband, Harvey Shannon. Together, they made
their home in Des Moines, surrounded by the familiar landscapes of northeastern New Mexico. She was a
stepmother and step-grandmother, as well as a sister and aunt, and enjoyed being part of her extended family.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Shannon; her parents, Charlie and Anne Conder; her brother,
Stephen Conder; her stepson, Justin Shannon.
She is survived by her stepdaughter, Kari Ramos (Jimmy), and stepson, Brian Shannon; her sister, Charlene
Glasgow; and brothers, Gary Conder (Wendy), Carl Conder (Debbie) and sister-in-law, Dr. Loretta Conder. She is
also survived by her cousins James “Jimmy” Saddoris, Roy Lynn Green (Tami), Pam Sorensen (Roger), and Ronnie
Green, along with her step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, one niece, five nephews, and other extended
family members.
Phyllis will be remembered for the love she shared with family and friends, her independent spirit, her sense of
humor, and her dedication to educating students.
