Rebecca Cleo Marquez Stewart, age 78, passed away Friday November 5, 2021, in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
Rosary will be recited at 9:30 AM on Friday, November 12 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Texline, Texas and Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am following the Rosary by Fr. Jason Pettigrew. Burial will follow in the Texline Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton, New Mexico.
Rebecca Cleo Marquez Stewart was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and aunt, born November 16, 1942, in Oakland, California to Dan and Rose Marquez. She Graduated from Clayton High School in 1961. Throughout her life she worked at the Soda Shop in the Smithson's drug store in Clayton, NM, St. Joseph's Hospital as a Candy Stripe Nurse in Albuquerque NM. She was taught by the nuns of St. Joseph's Hospital in Clayton, NM and became a Nurses Aide. She continued to work as a Nurse's Aide at Union County General Hospital, Dr. Jenkins's office, Dr. Van Wormer and Dr. Kegley's office and finished her career as Nurse's Aide at Dr. Van Wormer's office in Clayton, NM. After finishing her career as a Nurse's Aide, she started work as a Custodian at Texline ISD. She then became a substitute driver as a Rural Mail Route Carrier, for the Post Office in Texline, TX, under her husband, until she retired. Rebecca married Frances Dwaine Stewart on October 26, 1974. Rebecca was proceeded in death by her husband Frances Dwaine Stewart, her parents Daniel Marquez and Rose Garcia Marquez, in-laws Byron Stewart and Daisy Rea McDaniel Stewart, two sisters Rosalie Gonzales and Diana Sandoval, one sister in-law Gayle Stewart, three brothers-in-law J.L. Stewart, Donnie Stewart, and Garland Stewart and by her son Paul Christopher Marquez and granddaughter Harley Nicole Burnett.
SURVIVORS:
2 Daughters: Briana Stewart and her boyfriend Stewart Torres of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Alisha and her husband Wesley McMasters of Texline, Texas.
4 Sisters: Ruby and husband Max Farias, and Katherine Marquez of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Elizabeth and husband Ricardo Valenzuela of Romeroville, New Mexico, and Danielle and husband Deano Arellano of Clayton, New Mexico.
2 Sisters-in-law: Melinda Stewart of Amarillo, Texas and Celesta Stewart of Hobbs, New Mexico.
1 Brother-in-law: Armando Sandoval of Peralta, New Mexico.
8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
