Robert Wayne Davis, always known as (Boots) or the Booter was born on January 21st, 1929, on his family's farm near Clayton, New Mexico. He had six older siblings, two sisters and four brothers and remained in Clayton until retiring to Green Valley, Arizona in 1995. Boots lived 92 wonderful years and died in his sleep in Montana after a month-long hospitalization for multiple complications and pneumonia.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the Clayton Methodist Church with Rev. Kenneth W. Tidmore officiating. Burial will follow in the Clayton Memorial Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton, New Mexico.

Boots had a 44-year career with the Clayton Post Office. He began working part-time during high school because of the shortage of workers due to World War II. He met the mail train in the mornings and delivered mail in the afternoons. The Post Office was a good fit for Boots.

He loved visiting with people on his mail routes and over the years continued to advance to Postmaster before his retirement.

Boots married Hallie Mae Hammond on December 30th, 1949, in Clayton, New Mexico. They had four children, Rick, Debbie, Brian and Sheri. They had a very busy life with four children, but Boots made extra money for his family by refereeing ballgames and playing drums in a band. He had many great stories about those times in his life.

Boots had many hobbies throughout his life. As a young man he played football and basketball and even received a scholarship offer to play football and or basketball at two New Mexico Universities. He loved to waterski at their family cabin in Montana where he spent his summer vacations. His children's first water skiing experience was on his shoulders. Boots also had a passion for golf which precipitated his move to warmer winters in Arizona.

In the last few years of his life, he and Hallie provided for a major remodel of their 54-year-old cabin in Montana. Their legacy will be enjoyed by many generations to come.

Boots is survived by his wife Hallie Mae, his four children, Rick, Debbie, Brian and Sheri, and her husband Steve, five grandchildren, Adalina, Caroline, Spenser, Cassidy and Brandon, and two great grandchildren, Kaylie and Porter.

Boots had a gregarious nature and never knew a stranger. Even though he moved from his small hometown of Clayton, New Mexico, part of his heart never did. He remembered his friends and family fondly.
