Obituary

Ronnie Steen, age 66, died Monday, July 23, 2018 in Amarillo, Texas.

Rosary was recited at 7:00 P.M. on Friday, July 27, 2018 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Clayton, New Mexico by Deacon P. Louis Montoya. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at the Don R. Wood Auditorium in Clayton, New Mexico with Fr. Joel Bugas as Celebrant. Burial followed in the Clayton Memorial Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton.

R onnie Steen was born on October 2, 1951 in Clayton, New Mexico to Homer Lavern Steen and Minnie Jo (Cooley) Steen. He was raised in Texline and on a family ranch on the Tramperos. Ronnie graduated from Texline High School and went to college at New Mexico Highlands University before getting drafted into the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. He served in the Air Force and later in the Air Force Reserve and the Army Reserve. Ronnie coached football in Clayton and was one of the coaches of the first Clayton High School football team to ever with the State Championship. Ronnie married Judy Valdez on July 21, 2007 in Clayton. He worked as the Training Director for the North Eastern New Mexico Detention Facility since the facility opened. Ronnie was preceded in death by his father; Homer Lavern Steen and by his late wife Dorothy Steen.

HIS WIFE: Judy Steen of Clayton, New Mexico.

HIS MOTHER: Minnie Jo Steen of Dalhart, Texas.

4 DAUGHTERS Dustie Jo Steen and Elizabeth of Clayton, Holly Steen and Chris Sanchez of Albuquerque, Cheyenne Garza and Michael Fuller of Clayton and Melissa Andrade and Nick of Arvada, Colorado.

3 SONS: Jason Hunt of El Paso, Carlos Montoya and Pilar of Amarillo and Josh Valdez and Talisha of Clayton.

12 GRANDCHILDREN: Justyce, Glenn, Eli, Matthew, Justin, Lauren, Raley, Riata, Rosita, Blake, Cody and Larkin.

1 SISTER: Cynthia Barnes and David of Plano, Texas.

3 BROTHERS: Jeff Steen and Josefa of Moriarty, Dusty Steen of Raton and Kerry Steen and Suzann of Stinnett.
