Sherron "Sue" Ricketson, age 80, died on Saturday, September 26, 2026 in Amarillo, Texas.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, October 1, 2026 at the Amistad Church with Rev. Kenneth W. Tidmore officiating. Burial will follow in the Amistad Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton.

Sherron "Sue" Ricketson was born on February 18, 1946, in Flagstaff, Arizona, She grew up in Grady, New Mexico, with her parents Buster and Gladys, where she began a life filled with family, education, creativity, and a love for helping others. Sue attended college and earned her education degree, beginning a lifelong career as a teacher. Her first teaching position was in Morton, Texas. She later moved to Amistad, New Mexico, where she became the high school English teacher and librarian. It was there that she married the love of her life, Tommy Ricketson, on February 20, 1976. Sue was a devoted educator who eventually taught every grade level, and she truly loved teaching. She also drove a school bus for many years. Her love for children extended far beyond the classroom, as she opened her home and her heart as a foster parent to dozens of children throughout the years. Many children who came into her life found in Sue a safe place, a caring heart, and someone who believed in them. Sue was a woman of many talents and passions. She loved to write, garden, can, and paint. She treasured her family and took great pride in the people she loved. She especially loved her "cowboy," Tommy, and those who knew her can find comfort in knowing that she has now been reunited with the man she loved so dearly. Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Ricketson; her son, Matthew Ricketson; her parents, Buster and Gladys Thomas; her brothers, Ronald Stanfield and Cecil Thomas; and other beloved family members and friends.

SURVIVORS:

She is survived by her sons, Troy Ricketson and wife Alma of Waterford, Michigan, and Andy Ricketson of Logan, New Mexico; her sister, Dorothy Barrett and husband Randy of Benton, Arkansas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sue leaves behind grandchildren Jillian Ricketson and Josh Ricketson of Waterford, Michigan; and Marcus Ricketson, Stefanee Ricketson, and Desarae Ricketson, all of Clovis, New Mexico.

Her legacy continues through her beloved great-grandchildren: Brooklyn, Teryn, Haven, Onyx, and Kyla of Michigan; and Elyjuh, Bentlee, Willow, Sophia, and Rue of New Mexico.

Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Erma Jeane Krahn, Jo Ann Nials and husband Ray, Einice Crist, Marilyn Hemphill and husband Jack and Allan Ricketson and wife Cheryl.

Sue's life touched far more people than can be captured in a list of names. Through her years as a teacher, school bus driver, foster parent, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, she gave her time, her love, and her heart to countless people. The children she taught and cared for, along with her family and friends, will carry her memory with them.

Sue will be remembered for her generous heart, her creativity, her love of children, her dedication to teaching, and most of all, the love she had for her family and her cowboy.

She has finished her earthly journey and is now home with the Lord.
