Obituary

Sterlin Randle Shields, age 74, died Thursday, June 13, 2019 in Amarillo, Texas.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, June 17, 2019 at the Amistad United Methodist Church in Amistad, New Mexico with Lynn Clay officiating. Burial followed in the Amistad Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton, New Mexico.

Sterlin Randle Shields was born on January 14, 1945 in Tucumcari, New Mexico to C. R. "Pete" Shields and Wilma (Wise) Shields. He attended school in Amistad and graduated from Amistad High School in 1962. He attended college at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales. While growing up, Sterlin attended the Hayden Baptist Church in Hayden. Sterlin married Ruth (McDaniel) Shields on June 1, 1969 in Clayton, New Mexico and they faithfully attended the Amistad United Methodist Church together. He worked for the Castleberries Ranch and the Whitaker Ranch for several years and then worked for the Sale Barn in Portales and Clayton. Sterlin spent the rest of his time living and working on the family ranch. Sterlin was a member of the Amistad Fire Department for over 25 years and was also an Amistad EMT. He served on the Southwestern Electric Coop board and served on the Administrative Council of the Amistad United Methodist Church. Sterlin helped neighboring ranchers brand and he did custom bailing. He loved horses, ranching and bailing hay and he especially loved spending time with his kids, grandkids and extended family. There wasn't anyone he wouldn't help.

SURVIVORS :

WIFE: Ruth Shields of Amistad, New Mexico.

3 DAUGHTERS: Kristi Novak and her husband Logan of San Antonio, Texas, Rachelle Knepp and her husband Kenny of Amarillo, Texas and Sharla Laumbach and her husband Michael of Amistad, New Mexico.

1 SON: Lance Shields and his wife Teresa of Gainsville, Texas.

5 GRANDCHILDREN: Zane Novak, Laina Laumbach, Amber Knepp, K J Knepp and Rockkeem Carey.

3 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Austyn Gonzales, Brooke Gonzales and Analiyah Gomez.

1 BROTHER: Ervin Shields of Amistad, New Mexico.

And numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

MEMORIALS : In Lieu of flowers; the family asks that memorials be made in Sterlin's memory to the Amistad United Methodist Church in Amistad, New Mexico.
