Thomas Andrew Schroeder's Obituary
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the Church of Christ in Clayton, New Mexico with Sam Collins officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton.
Thomas Andrew Schroeder was born on May 5, 1933 in Springfield, Illinois to Andrew Jacob Schroeder and Ena (Hales) Schroeder. As a teenager he was baptized in the Church of Christ in Springfield, Illinois. He left high school early to join the US Navy in 1950 and served in the Navy Seabees during the Korean War stationed some of his time in Japan. He was discharged in 1954 in California and stayed there and went to work for Johns Manville Technology as a mechanic and welder. Thomas met Gwyn Hawthorn in California and they were married on November 5, 1955 in Las Vegas, Nevada. In November of 1968 they moved their family to Milton-Freewater, Oregon where he worked for Key Technology till he retired as a welder in 1995. He always had a big shop and he loved to do wood work and build cabinets and work on cars and trucks when he was not at work on his regular job. After he retired in 1997 they moved to Clayton, New Mexico. He enjoyed meeting each morning at the Dairy Queen with his old buddies for coffee. He was a member of the Clayton Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by 3 sisters; Norma, Peggy and Janet, a grandson; Jeffrey Schroeder in 2005 and a brother-in-law; Lee Hight in 2016.

His wife of 61 years; Gwyn Schroeder of Clayton, New Mexico.
2 SONS: Thomas Phillip Schroeder and his wife Pattie of Milton-Freewater, Oregon and Ricky Dean Schroeder and his wife Cheryl of Clayton, New Mexico.
3 GRANDCHILDREN: Michael Schroeder and his wife Angie of La Grande, Oregon, Christopher Schroeder and his wife Heidi of Walla Walla, Washington and Kevin Schroeder and his wife Darla of Seattle, Washington.
1 GREAT-GRANDSON: Hayden Schroeder of La Grande, Oregon.
2 SISTERS: Dorothy Hight of Newport Beach, California and Ada Filutze and her husband Jim of Ripley, New York.
1 BROTHER: Andrew Schroeder and his wife Betty of Fullerton, California.
And numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
