Wanda Leedean "Deanie" (Weese), Swanson, age 71, died Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at her home in Clayton, NM from a sudden heart attack.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, December 19th at the First United Methodist Church in Clayton, New Mexico, with Rev. Kenneth W. Tidmore, pastor officiating. Burial will follow in the Grenville Cemetery in Grenville, New Mexico by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton.

She was born on October 17, 1951, in Clayton, NM to Virgil Enoch Weese and Fern Elva (Jones) Weese. She attended and graduated from Clayton High School in 1969.
Deanie was the youngest of 5 children, later becoming older sister to two ½ sisters. Born and raised in NE New Mexico. She graduated from Clayton High School in 1969 before going on to secretary school in Amarillo, TX. She met and married the love of her life, Charles "Thumper" Swanson on July 4, 1974, in Raton, New Mexico. They moved to Monterey Bay, California after they were married to begin their life together, working, and enjoying each other's company.
Deanie and Thumper greatest joy were their pets over the years. From cats to eventually dogs. They brought them great joy, entertainment and comfort. They loved shelties but have had a few other breeds of dogs to go along with them. Her dogs kept her going. They have been spoiled and loved so much.
They moved back to the Denver, Colorado area in the 1985. Deanie went to work as a payroll and accounts payable clerks for CAT construction company and spent over 20 years working for them. After that company closed, she went on to work for several different construction companies before she moved to Clayton, NM in August 2018.
Deanie and Thumper were very active in square dancing and later clogging. They travelled to many places to perform for many people with the various clubs they were members of. Over those years Deanie helped sew many of their outfits used to perform.
After moving to Clayton, Deanie joined the United Methodist Church, becoming actively involved and very loved by many in her church family. She also joined the Clayton Better Homes Extension club. These activities along with the great friends and family she had in Clayton have kept her busy.
Her sister Kay and her talked almost daily. Their bond has always been very strong and special. They were known to even do bible study together over the phone. Deanie and Thumper were God parents to Tristan Cole Davis. He meant the world to them. He has brought them great joy, many laughs, and entertainment as well as embarrassments since he was little. They loved all their nieces and nephews. They kept up with almost all of them as they grew up and later became adults and started their own families.
Deanie was proceeded in death by her husband, Thumper, on November 18, 2007. In addition, she was preceded in death by both of her parents, her brothers: Kenneth Weese and Bob Weese, her stepmom Wanda; nephews: Virgil Paye, David and Russell Bullard; a niece Janet Wolfforth; brothers-in-laws, Bill Bullard and Dale Wiggins.
She is survived by 4 sisters: Kay Paye, Big Sandy, TX; Sue Wiggins, Clayton, NM; Wendy (Newt) Russell of Wheatland, WY; and Kim (Craig) Graves of Wheatland, WY. Two sisters-in-law: Fawn Weese of Grenville, NM and Donna Weese of Big Sandy, TX. Four brothers-in-law: David (Mercy) Swanson of Raton, NM; Michael and Wally Swanson of Monterrey Bay, CA; and Murray (Julie) Swanson of Farmington, NM. One Godson, Tristan Davis of Grenville, NM and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church in Clayton in Wanda's memory.
